US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

According to Russian media, the meeting lasted about an hour.

At a meeting with Lavrov, Marco Rubio repeated the call of the US President to stop killing.

“The secretary repeated the call of President Trump to stop murder and the need for Moscow to take significant steps to achieve a long-term settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war,” said the first deputy of the State Department of State Department Tommy Pygott.

The Russian side does not report the results of this meeting.

Rubio and Lavrov have repeatedly held meetings, they also support regular telephone contacts.

On the eve of US President Donald Trump, published after his meeting with President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky in New York Post on the social network Truth Social, in particular, doubted in Russia’s military and economic force, called it a “paper tiger” and said that it was possible. Such a statement has become a sudden change in Trump’s rhetoric in favor of Ukraine.

At the same time, there is no signs that the statement will be accompanied by a change in the US policy on Russia, in particular the decision to impose new rigid sanctions against Moscow, which President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy seeks to be sought by New York this week, the US President did not announce.

The Kremlin called Trump’s false thesis that Ukraine can conquer Russia occupied by Russia.
