Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, confirmed if the “clear path to peace” appears in the near future, the United States will depart from intermediary efforts in establishing peace.

According to the US State Department press service, Rubio informed Rutte about the peaceful proposal presented yesterday to the Ukrainian delegation in Paris and Russian officials on the phone.

The Secretary of State expressed the hope of Trump and the US that this proposal would be accepted and lead to a strong and long peace in Ukraine.

“The Secretary of State emphasized that although our country is devoted to the termination of the war, unless there is a clear path to peace in the near future, the United States will depart from intermediary efforts in establishing peace,” the statement reads.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington is ready to leave the negotiation process due to lack of progress.

Rubio reported that he had been talking on the phone during negotiations in Paris with the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, and that he told him about the constructive negotiations and proposal to Ukraine, which the Ukrainian team should discuss in the coming days. “They will take a few days to think about this issue, and they will return to us at the beginning of next week,” Rubio said about Ukraine.

In Paris, meetings between representatives of Ukraine, the United States and Europe on the completion of the Russian-Ukrainian war were held on April 17. According to French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro, the next round of negotiations will take place in London next week.

Officially, Moscow states that it seeks peace, but on its own conditions, including the refusal of Ukraine to occupied Crimea and four regions, which Moscow declares illegal annexation, without controlling them completely, but also the rejection of NATO accession and, probably, other concessions.

Recently, US President Donald Trump has said several times that Russia needs to go from words to business and show its desire for peace. At the same time, the US president stated that not only Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has been resolved, but also Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Trump’s predecessor as US President Joe Biden, who, according to Trump, did nothing to avoid it.
