Details: According to the Russian mass media, the attack took place in a residential building on the Volokolamsky highway in the north-west of Moscow.

The unknown shot Alekseeva several times in the back, after which he disappeared from the scene.
The SC of the Russian Federation confirmed that a criminal case has been opened in connection with the attempt, and the search for the attacker continues. The condition of the injured is not reported.

- In June 2022, the SBU reported that it had exposed an agent network of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, which was supposed to help the enemy in capturing Ukraine. According to the investigation, it included People’s Deputy Andrii Derkach: he allegedly oversaw the creation of a number of private security companies in various regions in order to use these structures for a quick takeover of the country.
- According to the former assistant of People’s Deputy Igor Kolesnikov, Derkach was recruited in 2016. He claims that the head of the GRU Ihor Kostyukov and his first deputy Volodymyr Alekseev worked personally with the deputy.
- In June 2023, Alekseev, together with Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, took part in negotiations with the founder of the “Wagner” PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin during the mercenary mutiny.
- Alekseev’s immediate supervisor, Igor Kostyukov, currently heads the Russian delegation at the negotiations with the United States and Ukraine. The next round of these negotiations was held in Abu Dhabi the day before.

He was born on April 24, 1961 in the village of Holodky, Khmilnytskyi district, Vinnytsia region. In 1984, he graduated from the Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School named after V. Margelova. In different years, he held the positions of the head of the intelligence departments of the Moscow and Far Eastern military districts of the Russian Federation, later he headed the 14th department of the GRU, and in 2011 he became the first deputy head of the GRU.
According to Ukrainian intelligence and materials of international investigations, Alekseev was responsible for intelligence support of Russian aggression against Ukraine, preparation of initial data for missile and air strikes on Ukrainian territory. In particular, for civilian objects, as well as for measures related to the organization of so-called “referendums” in the temporarily occupied territories. Open sources mentioned his role in attempts to create quasi-authority structures in the occupied territories, in particular in the Kherson region.
He was also responsible for the intelligence support of the military operations of a group of Russian troops in Syria, which led to the mass death of the local civilian population, qualified by the international community as a war crime.
Alekseev also appears in the materials of American investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election, in particular in the context of cyber attacks on the structures of the US Democratic Party and influence operations. In 2017, according to Russian state sources, Alekseeva was awarded the title “Hero of Russia” by a closed decree. His name is mentioned in US sanctions decisions.
