In the coming days, the administration of US President Joe Biden will announce its latest $1.2 billion aid package to Ukraine, Reuters reports citing sources.

According to one of the interlocutors of the agency, the package will include air defense interceptors and artillery ammunition. The exact content of the aid package will be announced in the coming days, the article says.

As Reuters writes, since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the United States has allocated $175 billion in aid to Ukraine, including approximately $61.4 billion in security assistance. About half of this security assistance came through the USAI program. The rest was drawn from existing military stocks through the president’s reduction authority.

Under USAI, military equipment is procured from the defense industry or partners, not from American stockpiles, which means it can take months or years to get it to the battlefield.

On December 19, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the administration of US President Joe Biden is trying to do everything possible to ensure that Ukraine has the resources to continue fighting in 2025.

Earlier, American media reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden is working on increasing the supply of weapons to Ukraine in order to have time to hand them over during the last five weeks of his mandate. According to sources, hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, thousands of rockets, hundreds of armored vehicles and other critical equipment can be transferred to Ukraine.

On December 12, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that the White House is allocating another $500 million package of “urgently needed weapons and equipment” to Ukraine. It included ammunition for HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems, ammunition for repelling drone attacks, and artillery shells of 105 and 155 mm caliber.

Since the beginning of December 2024, this is already the third aid package to Kyiv from the Joe Biden administration. On December 3, the United States allocated $725 million in aid to Ukraine, and on December 7, another $988 million.

Donald Trump’s inauguration will take place on January 20, 2025. Earlier, it was reported that representatives of the Biden administration fear that under the Trump administration, the supply of weapons to Ukraine will be significantly reduced or stopped, in order to push Kyiv into negotiations.
