Soldiers from several other countries participated in the exercises. Their task was to explore ways to better protect Greenland from threats such as those posed by Russia.
The US was invited to participate, but declined.
We will remind: US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday additional tariffs against eight European countries that previously sent troops to Greenland. This applies to Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Finland.
In his post, Trump directly mentioned the mission. According to him, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Finland are playing a “dangerous game”. He accused these countries of taking a “risk” in the conflict over Greenland, which is no longer “acceptable”. According to him, the tariffs are aimed at “quickly and without question putting an end to a potentially dangerous situation.”
Europeans reacted with outrage to Trump’s statement over the weekend. “Neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor elsewhere in the world will we allow ourselves to be influenced by intimidation or threats in such situations,” French President Emmanuel Macron said. A special meeting of EU ambassadors is scheduled for Sunday.
