Details: The president believes that, given the large number of people who supported the national revival movement in the 1980s, a referendum on unification with Romania could probably be held at that time.

“At the end of the 1980s, there were national revival movements and, of course, there were discussions about reunification with Romania, since Moldova used to be part of Romania. But at that time, we could not know how many people would have voted because there was no referendum,” she said.

When asked directly whether she supports unification with Romania, Sandu answered in the affirmative.

“If we held a referendum, I would vote for unification with Romania,” she said.

Sandu explained her choice by the geopolitical situation around Moldova and in the world in general.

“It is becoming increasingly difficult for a country like Moldova to survive, to exist as a democracy, as a sovereign country. But as the president of Moldova, I understand that there is no majority that supports unification with Romania, but there is a majority that supports joining the EU, and we are working to achieve this goal. This is a much more realistic goal that helps us protect our sovereignty,” she added.

We will remind you that at the end of September, the Romanian far-right parties after the elections in Moldova called for unification countries

And a survey by the sociological company Avangarde from Bucharest showed that almost half of Romanians support unification with Moldova.
