The Czech Republic plans to continue the Program for the supply of heavy ammunition to Ukraine by 2026, as Europe hasten to strengthen the support of Kiev. This was stated in an interview with Bloomberg by the Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky.

According to him, these deliveries played a key role in the battlefield, significantly improving the position of Ukrainian troops. He added that the ratio of the use of artillery ammunition between Ukraine and Russia is about 1 to 2, which is much better than at the beginning of the war, when the ratio was 1 to 10.

Lipavsky stated that a program that receives funding from 11 countries will allow you to put 1.8 million ammunition in 2025. However, its further implementation will depend on the results of the parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic, planned for October. Lipavsky stressed that political support for the initiative is critical for Ukraine.

The Czech Initiative on the supply of heavy ammunition for Ukraine began in February 2024 and was launched by the Czech President Peter Pavel. The purpose is to supply artillery shells in Ukraine, mainly 155 mm and 122 mm caliber, from third countries outside the EU. The initiative was supported by more than 18 countries, including the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, France, Poland and others.

At the beginning of 2025, Peter Pavel stated that the Czech Initiative made it possible to put at least 1.6 million shells to Ukraine.

Nevertheless, this initiative has also been criticized. Criticism concerned, as if the low quality of artillery shells, delays in the supply and “Czech -centricity”.
