“Trump is ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees, but not within NATO – sources have revealed the details of negotiations with European leaders”, – WRITE: www.radiosvoboda.org
Three people – a European diplomat, a British official and a person who was informed of a conversation – stated that the United States was ready to play a role in providing Kyiv to contain future Russian aggression if a truce is reached. According to one source, Trump stated that he would take such an obligation only if these efforts are not part of NATO.
Trump’s openness to such guarantees – the key requirement of both Ukraine and Europe – helps to explain the cautious optimism that European officials have expressed after a conversation and on the eve of Alaska meeting. Trump did not specify what he implies by security guarantees, but only discussed a more general concept, the source said.
The White House did not respond to the Trump’s openness request to the US Security Guarantee.
Regardless of what security guarantees will be clear, the United States will not continue to provide weapons or troops directly to Ukraine, although it will sell weapons to Europe for use by Kiev, Politico reports.
The discussion took place within the framework of the virtual meeting on Wednesday, which aimed to reconcile the position of the United States and Europe before Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
Donald Trump called consultations with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and leaders of European countries, which took place on August 13.
The summit of US and Russia leaders is scheduled for August 15 in Anchorge, the largest city of Alaska. This will be the first meeting of the Russian leader with the current US President since 2021.
On August 11, Donald Trump assumed the possibility of “some exchange of territories” between Ukraine and Russia, and expressed dissatisfaction with the remarks of Ukraine’s leadership about the need for constitutional approval in this case.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Vladimir Putin said Trump Steve Vitcoff, who would agree to a full ceasefire, “if Ukraine would remove troops from all over the Donetsk region.” Subsequently, as reported by The Washington Post, a confirmation was confirmed that Putin was not ready to give up claims on Russia’s captured territory in Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions.
