The law enforcement officers say that on the spot they established that “the woman did not choose a safe speed, lost control, drove off the roadway, where she ran into a concrete fence, which caused the car to flip onto its roof.”
“As a result of the accident, two passengers of the car – a woman born in 1983 and a 40-year-old man – died on the spot. The driver was intoxicated – the Drager device showed 1.84 ppm,” the police said.
Law enforcement officers detained a 41-year-old woman in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
“According to this fact, the investigators started criminal proceedings under part 4 Art. 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of the rules of road traffic safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles while intoxicated. The sanction of the article provides for deprivation of liberty for a term of up to 12 years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of up to 10 years,” law enforcement officers reported.
In the spring, the head of the patrol police department, Oleksiy Biloshitskyi, said that in Ukraine, an unprecedentedly high level of traffic accidents due to driving while intoxicated is recorded. According to his data, given in May, for four months of the year, the police recorded almost 50,000 cases of drunken driving. Last year there were 151,000 materials with recorded facts of driving while intoxicated.
