According to law enforcement officers, the accident occurred on November 18 at 07:20.
“The driver of a BMW X6 car, moving along Zarichanska Street, collided head-on with Skoda Octavia and Mazda cars, after which he drove into a public transport stop. As a result of the accident, three women (ages 60, 56, and 53) who were standing at the bus stop died from their injuries,” the message reads.
The police noted that the driver was behind the wheel “with obvious signs of intoxication”, he was detained.
According to the article under which criminal proceedings were opened (violation of traffic safety rules or transport operation by persons who drive vehicles while intoxicated, which caused the death of several people), the driver faces from 7 to 12 years in prison.
In the spring, the head of the patrol police department, Oleksiy Biloshitskyi, said that in Ukraine, an unprecedentedly high level of traffic accidents due to driving while intoxicated is recorded. According to his data, given in May, for four months of the year, the police recorded almost 50,000 cases of drunken driving. Last year, there were 151,000 materials with recorded facts of driving under the influence of alcohol.
