German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Berlin currently has no opportunity to transfer additional Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine.

Details: Pistorius called on allies to support Ukrainian air defenses, because Germany has few options for this. He emphasized that Germany has already made a “disproportionately large contribution” by giving Ukraine more than a third of its Patriot systems.

Pistorius’ direct speech: “Nothing more can be done, because we ourselves are waiting for the replacement (of previously transferred systems, – ed.).”

Details: Pistorius also admitted that the number of IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile systems supplied to Ukraine is insufficient.

According to him, currently Germany remains the only country that can supply these systems to Kyiv, and does so “in a certain sense on a permanent basis.” However, despite the significant increase in the intensity of Russian attacks, preliminary supplies are still lacking.

Pistorius appealed to NATO and EU partners, given Kyiv’s critical need for ammunition and equipment. He emphasized that currently the task for all allies is a joint inspection of their own warehouses, especially those states that may still have free capacity to strengthen the Ukrainian shield.

Reference. The Patriot air defense system is an anti-aircraft missile system designed to protect against ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as aircraft. It is equipped with an advanced radar system capable of detecting and tracking long-range targets, and is considered one of the most effective air defense systems in the world.

Prehistory:

On January 1, the Ministry of Defense reported that two more Patriot air defense systems were put into operation combat duty for the protection of Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure.
