- On January 21, US President Donald Trump announced that he had formed the basis for a future agreement regarding Greenland, thanks to which he does not plan to impose tariffs against European countries.
- In her turn, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen outlined the red lines of such an agreement with the US, stressing that the status of a sovereign state is not being discussed.

Details: German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius defended the deployment of Bundeswehr soldiers to Greenland as part of the NATO mission, saying that “everyone in NATO knew about it” and that “it was agreed between the NATO partners.”
Shortly after the start of this mission, US President Donald Trump threatened countries, including Germany, with tariffs.
But Pistorius stressed that the mission did not contribute to the escalation, and the threats of tariffs could have arisen because of a misunderstanding on the part of the US.
“The fact that the American president then withdrew his threats to introduce tariffs shows that there was obviously a misunderstanding in Washington. This was not a symbolic act against someone. It was about showing that NATO is responsible for Greenland – and that’s exactly what we did,” explained the German Minister of Defense.
