Pentagon Sean Pentagon Petnall said on Wednesday that the aircraft was adopted “in accordance with all federal rules and regulations” and added that the US Department of Defense would comply with all the safety and functionality required for the aircraft transporting President Donald Trump. At the same time, both Democrats and some Republicans in Congress are feared that the acceptance of such a gift from a foreign state violates the US Constitution.
On Wednesday, during a meeting with President Syril Ramafoso in the White House Oval Cabinet, Trump accused the NBC journalist, who tried to ask him a question about a plane presented with Catar. Trump added that, together with the plane, Qatar intends to invest in the US economy “$ 5.1 trillion”.
Senator-Democrat Chuck Sumer presented a bill that forbids the use of the Pentagon’s funds for re-equipment for presidential needs of planes that previously belonged to foreign countries. Sumer believes that no modifications can guarantee the complete safety of such aircraft. Sumer intends to discuss his initiative, including it as amendments to future budget trees.
Some Republicans have also expressed concern about Qatar, but the leader of the Senate majority John Tun is not obliged to bring Sumer’s bill to vote.
