On Tuesday, the Pentagon confirmed that US military representatives watched joint military exercises between Russia and Belarus on Monday, accepting the invitation for the first time since Russia’s invasion of Russia in Ukraine in 2022. This was reported by Reuters agency Chief Pentagon Sean Parnelle.

“The US Embassy in Minsk received an invitation for our defense attachment to visit West-2025 military exercises in Belarus within the framework of the Honorary Guest Day (DV), and we have accepted the invitation in view of the recent productive bilateral cooperation between our countries,” Parnelle said.

He added that as part of the Honorary Guest Day, the presence of exercises is a common practice between the military and the US defense attaché is part of a greater group of international military participants. ”

On September 15, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus reported that the US military arrived at a landfill in Belarus, where joint military Russian-Belarusian exercises were held. They were met by the Minister of Defense of Belarus Viktor Khrenin.

West-2025 training lasted on September 12-16. They were conducted simultaneously in different places of Russia and Belarus.

The presence of American officers is another sign of warming the relationship between Washington and Belarus, a close ally of Russia. The authorities of Belarus allowed Russia to use its territory to send tens of thousands of soldiers to invade Ukraine in February 2022.

US President Donald Trump, who is trying to end the Russian Federation in Ukraine, establish closer relations with the Belarusian authoritarian leader Lukashenko, who regularly negotiates with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

After meeting with Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk on September 11, US Deputy Special Supporter John Cole announced that the United States revoke sanctions against the Belarusian state carrier “Belava”. At a meeting with Cole, Lukashenko stated the possibility of release of prisoners. Later it became known that more than half a hundred former prisoners in Belarus crossed the Belarusian-Lithuanian border on September 11, including journalists and political opponents of Lukashenko.

On September 16, Oleksandr Lukashenko signed a Decree on Position of 25 people.
