Barro’s direct speech: “Peace is quite achievable if only Vladimir Putin gives up his crazy dream of recreating the Soviet Union, starting with the conquest of Ukraine. Ukraine belongs to Ukrainians – and only them.”

Details: According to the head of French diplomacy, European partners made every effort to influence the negotiation process with the aim of guaranteeing the security of Europe and peace for Ukraine. He emphasized that no decisions related to European competence – from Ukraine’s accession to the EU to the security architecture – will be adopted without the participation of Europe.
Barro also noted that Putin now faces a choice: either take settlement proposals seriously or face the collapse of his own economy and defeat on the battlefield.
The French minister confirmed that on Monday, December 1, Paris will host the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The purpose of the visit will be “advancement of negotiations”. Barro stressed that the Ukrainian president “has full legitimacy” to lead his country to peace, dismissing any doubts about his authority.
In addition, the diplomat warned the Kremlin against illusions that peace can be negotiated only with the United States. He referred to the words of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who clearly stated during the meeting of the “coalition of the willing” on November 25: sustainable peace is impossible without the consent of all parties to the conflict.

- As noted, the previous visit of the President of Ukraine to France was only two weeks ago, on November 17. Then they signed an agreement that provides for the purchase of up to 100 Rafale fighter jets for Ukraine.
