OSCE appointed Karin Edebrink as a special representative on deportation of Ukrainian children

According to the OSCE PA press service, Odebrink was deeply involved in resolving this issue, in particular, as a special speaker of the Parliamentary Support Group of Ukraine PA OSCE. In July, she published a detailed report called “Theft and Deportation of Ukrainian Children by Russia”, which calls for intensification of international cooperation, in particular through an international coalition for the return of Ukrainian children and the initiative of President of Zelensky Bring Kids Back UA.

“It is extremely important that we combine efforts on international platforms, coalitions and assemblies to put an end to Russia’s illegal abduction. Together we can help return these children home, ”Odebrink said, commenting on our appointment.

The OSCE President emphasized that this appointment reflects the long -standing dedication to the organization, in particular, in the last four declarations of the Assembly it was about illegal deportations by Russia.

The office of the President of Ukraine emphasized that the OSCE voice and parliamentarians are important, and the role of international partners is key. The head of the office Andriy Yermak stated that Kyiv is expecting close cooperation.

As reported by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in September, 1 625 children were returned due to Bring Kids Back UA initiative.

According to the official data of Ukraine, more than 20,000 Ukrainian children were found in Russia during a full -scale war in Russia and the occupied territories. At the same time, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets suggested that Russia illegally exported about 150 thousand children from Ukraine, and the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for the Rights of the Child Daria Gerasimchuk called the figure in “several hundred thousand children, ie somewhere 200-300 thousand”.
