Details: Magyar claims that the Hungarian government led by Viktor Orbán has lost the trust of investors, and suspicions of corruption have led to the freezing of around 20 billion euros of key EU funds.
The oppositionist says that if his Tisza party wins the election, he will follow the example of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who quickly restored access to EU funds after coming to power in December 2023.
“EU funds will be the first item on our agenda. The key task is to follow Tusk in the preparation and negotiations regarding this. We need this money,” Madyar said.
He also believes that in order to strengthen the stability of the Hungarian economy, it should switch to the euro.
“We want a predictable exchange rate for the forint and we would like to have a date for entering the eurozone… I know that the euro has advantages and disadvantages. But it provides stability and predictability for the markets, for Hungarian entrepreneurs and Hungarians,” the politician explained.
The Tisza party, which Magyar created a few weeks before the elections to the European Parliament in June, rapidly increased its rating and became the largest opposition party in Hungary.
Two polls were published in October even showed the advantage of Tysa over Viktor Orban’s Fidesz party.
Note that the next regular parliamentary elections in Hungary will not be held before 2026.
