In response to the question whether it would be acceptable for Hungary that Ukraine’s membership in the EU would be the price of peace, he answered: “Fortunately, such a connection does not exist.”
“Membership in the EU is not a guarantee of protection. It will never happen. Ukraine’s membership in the EU is not realistic. Hungary is already openly opposed to the start of negotiations, but there are a number of Western European countries where a decision of the parliament or a referendum is necessary. They will not happen,” Orban said.
“Everyone in the corridors of Brussels knows this and talks about it. But faith reigns in the halls. The peoples of Europe see precisely that the accession of Ukraine will not add to the EU’s strength, but will take it away,” he added.
He mentioned the statement that the military power of Ukraine increases the security of Europe.
“This is not true. Keeping Ukraine absorbs the energy and resources of Europe. Ukraine is getting weaker every day,” he said.
Orbán also did not rule out a war in Europe in 2026.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the date of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union was discussed between Ukraine and the USA without confirmation from the European side as of today.
