“We have already burned 185 billion euros, and… we are going to burn even more. Thus, we are financing a country that has no chance of winning the war,” Orbán said.

He accused European leaders of deliberately prolonging the war in an effort to gain a better negotiating position for a future peace agreement. According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, this approach is wrong.

“The situation and the time are more favorable for the Russians than for us. It should not continue; stop it as soon as possible,” Orbán urged.

Regarding a possible peace settlement, Orbán said he expects “an agreement between the Russians and the Americans on war, trade, energy and other issues.”

He also called on Europe to “open an independent channel of communication with Russia” and conduct parallel negotiations in order to eventually “unify the position of Americans and Europeans.”

Describing the future security system, Orbán noted that the post-war system for Ukraine should include “a peace agreement that stabilizes the borders, regardless of whether they are internationally recognized or not,” as well as “definitely some sort of demilitarized zone.”

He expressed confidence that unless a “miracle” happens, Russia will continue its occupation of Ukrainian territories even after the end of the war.

“This is reality, whether you like it or not,” Orbán emphasized.
