Orbán’s direct speech: “The plan is not only to leave, but also to get to Moscow, which because of the war is not as easy as before, so we will have to make a big detour. Therefore, we have to leave at 04:00 in the morning in order to be in time for the meeting scheduled for this morning. Today we will meet with the President of Russia.”

Details: In a video posted on the prime minister’s Facebook page early Friday morning, shortly before 05:30, titled “To Moscow!”, he announced that he was traveling to the Russian capital to provide Hungary with energy supplies for the winter and next year at an affordable price.
Orban spoke to the media instead of his usual Friday radio interview, saying it was a “big battle” with “big swings” across Europe, but prices were steadily rising, which he said was putting a strain on households and economies across Western Europe.
“Hungary currently has the lowest energy prices in Europe. This is because we have access to cheap Russian oil and gas, which are cheap compared to international prices,” Orbán said.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijarto is also traveling with Orbán.
Prehistory:
- Kremlin master Vladimir Putin said on November 27 that Russia and Hungary are discussing a potential visit by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
- In October 2023, Orban met with Putin in China. Then Orban called the Russian war against Ukraine a “military operation”.
