Details: On Thursday, December 11, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU (Coreper) started voting according to the written procedure on the approval of the proposal of the European Commission to prohibit the return of assets frozen in the jurisdiction of the EU to Russia. Voting will continue until 17:00 on Friday, December 12.

“Today, Brussels will cross the Rubicon. At noon, a written vote will begin, which will cause irreparable damage to the Union. The subject of the vote is the frozen Russian assets, which until now have been put to a vote by EU member states every six months, resulting in unanimous decisions. With today’s procedure, Brussels cancels the unanimity requirement with one stroke of the pen, which is clearly illegal,” Orban said.
The Hungarian prime minister said that this decision “will put an end to the rule of law in the European Union, and European leaders will become above the rules.”
“Instead of ensuring compliance with EU treaties, the European Commission systematically violates European law. It does this in order to continue its clearly losing war in Ukraine,” Orban claims.
He stated that the rule of law in the European Union “is being replaced by the rule of bureaucrats, that is, the Brussels dictatorship is being established.”
“Hungary will protest against this decision and will do everything in its power to restore the rule of law,” added Orbán.
It should be noted that the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, stated that under no circumstances will he support the proposal of the European Commission to provide Ukraine with a reparation loan at the expense of the frozen assets of the Russian Federation, if these funds are used for military purposes.
