“At first everyone was accepted in NATO, it was a guarantee of security from a military point of view, and it was only then that the country could join the EU. But now it is impossible. If Ukraine enters NATO, it would immediately mean a war between NATO and Russia … For us, Hungarians, and for Europeans, it is not in the interest of the war.
The interviewer reminded Orban about Soviet tanks in Budapest and asked why he refuses to understand the situation of Ukraine so much.
In response, the Hungarian prime minister stated that in Hungary, “a little better understanding of the history of Ukraine than in France” and became reference to that Hungary in its history also experienced an occupation.
“So, we understand the Ukrainians. But we think that Russia does not need to be loved, but we need to have agreement with it. Russia is a geopolitical reality, even if we do not like it,” Orban said.
