Details: The publication reminds that since 2010, the Orban government has conducted more than a dozen so -called national consultations on various issues, from migration to LGBTK+.
It occurs by sending letters in which all the Hungarians who are entitled to vote ask questions and offer to choose one of the answers, sometimes just answer “yes” or “no”.
The questions are often formulated in a pre -emptive manner, and the vast majority of answers, according to Hungarian media reports, coincide with the government’s position. That is why opposition and civil society consider this mechanism a propaganda instrument.
For example, during national consultations on EU migration policy in 2023, the Hungarians were asked if they support Brussels’ ghetto for migrants in Hungary. At that time, less than 20% of Hungarians participated in the survey, but 99% of them said no.
The publication also emphasizes that the results of these national consultations are not legally binding, but they are used to strengthen the position of Orban’s government on differences. Based on these results, Orban may say that most voters support a certain position.
As for Ukraine, the Hungarian government has already conducted “consultations”. The issues concerned the wars in Ukraine and Israel, Ukraine’s accession to the EU, as well as utilities, freezing interest rates, additional profit tax, foreign influence on Hungarian policy and the law on child protection.
There were four issues related to Ukraine, and they were all formulated manipulatively. At that time, the Hungarian government said that 98% of Hungarians support its policy.
Before that, the Hungarian government consulted on anti -Russian sanctions – then 97% of Hungarians allegedly spoke against them.
