The deputy head of the Presidential Office Irina Wise voiced the key provisions of the statute of a special tribunal, which will consider the crimes of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

The basis of the Statute is Article 8 bis of the Roman MCC Roman Statute, supplemented by the criteria of aggressive war on resolution 3314 of the UN General Assembly.

“The special tribunal does not undermine the International Criminal Court – it supplements it. The proceedings can go in parallel, and in the case of transferring the accused to the ISS – the process in the tribunal is suspended,” the Wise explained.

Special achievement of Ukraine is the inclusion of the mechanism in absentia, added wise.
