“US President Donald Trump plans to hold a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the war in Ukraine”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
The conversation will take place a day before Trump receives Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi at the White House. Trump and Zelensky will discuss the possibility of Ukraine receiving Tomahawk long-range missiles.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
The other day, Donald Trump said the day before that he was disappointed with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Putin, according to Trump, should have won the war against Ukraine in a week, but it has been going on for almost four years. “I don’t understand why he continues this war. This war is so bad for him,” Trump said while answering questions from reporters at the White House.
After that, the Kremlin said that they do not yet know when the telephone conversation between Trump and Putin may take place.
Donald Trump also suggested that during the meeting on October 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi would ask for the supply of Tomahawk missiles. At the same time, the US president did not say whether a decision has been made to supply these missiles to Ukraine.
On October 7, Trump confirmed that he does not rule out supplying Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles if Russia does not stop the war against Ukraine. At the same time, he noted that he first intends to discuss this issue with Russia.

The Tomahawk missile, produced by RTX, has a range of up to 1,000 miles (over 1,600 kilometers), which significantly exceeds the capabilities of the American ATACMS multiple-launch missile systems (about 190 miles), which are actively used by the Armed Forces. The Tomahawk has greater speed and combat power compared to Ukrainian drones, which are capable of striking deep into Russian territory, but often encounter modern air defense systems.
Ukraine has been asking partners for long-range weapons over the past year. Kyiv is also trying to develop its own long-range solutions, in particular the Palyanitsa and Flamingo systems, but they do not have the same combat characteristics as the Tomahawk.
