OGP: The court arrested the Mercedes-Benz driver suspected of beating a cyclist in Podil

On Saturday, October 4, the court arrested a driver suspected of beating a cyclist in Kiev for 30 days, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

“Today, on October 4, 2025, at the request of the prosecutors of the Podilsky District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv, a 44-year-old resident of Kyiv region, a pre-trial detention was chosen. The precautionary measure is October 31, 2025, ”the publication reads.

The prosecutor’s office says that On October 3, the detainee was reported suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, namely in the deliberate leave without the help of a person who is in a life -threatening condition.

The senior group of prosecutors in criminal proceedings is the head of the Podilsky District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv Dmitry Kutova, the Office of the Prosecutor General reports.

In the office of the Prosecutor General reminded that earlier the driver was already charged with the commission of a criminal offense under Part 1 of Art. 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – deliberate grievous bodily harm, that is, intentional bodily harm, dangerous to life at the time of causing. It is claimed that the prosecutor in court sought his arrest, instead the court chose a night’s arrest. This preventive measure was appealed on appeal.

In the Podilskyi district of Kiev between the 44-year-old Mercedes-Benz G-500 and a 40-year-old cyclist, there was a conflict due to parking of a vehicle on cycling. An annoyed comment by the driver struck a few blows around the face. The victim lost consciousness and fell on the asphalt. After that, the attacker pulled the unconscious man to the roadside and left the conflict.

His actions were qualified as a deliberate task of the cyclist of grievous bodily harm (Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanctions of articles provide for imprisonment for up to 8 years of imprisonment.

Many users of social networks wrote about this case. In particular, the U-Cycle Cyclists Association stated that after comment by the driver, a car-plated car, a car-packed car shows “the full insecurity of cyclists as road users, even when there is a bicycle infrastructure on the road.”
