According to the media press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General, today the Shevchenkivsky court will consider a request for election of a suspected preventive measure.
The Security Service of Ukraine stated on May 1, which prevented the murder of the activist and volunteer Sergei Sternenko. According to the department, the assassination of firearms was made on Sternenko – “thanks to the professional and instant actions of the SBU employees, the attacker was detained on the spot.” Operational investigative actions are ongoing.

Sternenko subsequently reported that he had undergone surgery after injury, the bullet “did not affect anything important”.
This is not the first attack on Sternenko. In 2018, three attacks in Odessa were committed, during the last of them he was fatally injured by one of Ivan Kuznetsov’s attackers. The second participant of the attack Andriy Isaikul later fled from Ukraine. The activist argued that he acted within the framework of legitimate self -defense. Sternenko declared pressure on the investigation from the then Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov and Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova.
In March 2021, the Prosecutor General’s office reported that Venediktov and Avakov discussed the Kuznetsov murder, although this case was a SBU. In April, Venediktova stated that Sternenko’s suspicion “would be in any case”. In December 2023, Serhiy Sternenko reported that the court had closed the case for a probable excess of his self -defense.
