NYT: Pentagon has developed a Tomahawk transfer plan for Ukraine if Trump’s decision

According to media, the supply of these missiles will be associated with enormous difficulties, not least because Ukraine does not have marine or terrestrial starting installations”, – WRITE: www.radiosvoboda.org

The US Ministry of Defense (Trump renamed to the Ministry of War) has developed plans for the sale or transfer of Tomahawk missiles if US President Donald Trump has ordered. About it writes The New York Times on October 14.

But, as the publication notes, the supply of these missiles will be associated with great difficulty, not least because Ukraine does not have marine or ground launching installations needed to launch missiles.

To launch Tomahawk missiles, Ukraine will need a start -up of the US army called “typhoid”, which, according to military officials, will bring the United States to direct confrontation with Russia.

It is unclear how many Tomahawk missiles can provide the United States, how Ukraine will safely store them and what impact will be a limited number of missiles, NYT writes.

During the last meeting in September, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump, among other things, discussed the possibility of transferring Tomahawk missiles.

Last week, Trump stated that “in some sense (“Sort of” in English – Ed.) made a decision “about whether to supply Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. “I think I want to know what they will do with them. Where will they send them? I think I would have to ask this question, ”the US President told journalists in the White House Oval Office.

From Trump’s statement, it is impossible to conclude what the decision was – positive or negative for Kiev.

In the end of last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the supply of US Tomahawk US Tomahawk missiles would lead to a “completely new level of escalation”, in particular in relations between Moscow and Washington. Putin also diminished the importance of these missiles, calling them “not quite modern”, and noted that the provision of these missiles to Ukraine “will not change the balance of power on the battlefield.”

The Tomahawk rocket, produced by RTX, has a range of up to 1,000 miles (more than 1600 kilometers), which significantly exceeds the capabilities of US rocket launchers of ATACMS (about 190 miles) that are actively using the Armed Forces. Tomahawk has higher speed and combat force than Ukrainian drones that can strike deep into Russia, but often face modern air defense systems.

Ukraine has appealed to partners with requests for long -range weapons during the last year. Kyiv also tries to develop its own long -range solutions, including the Palyanytsya and Flamingo systems, but they do not have such combat characteristics as Tomahawk.
