Scientists have made a breakthrough in the field of energy, using an unexpected ingredient – lavender oil.

Researchers at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces have developed new material for sodium-grained batteries, which will help to significantly increase their efficiency and durability.

Sodium-gray batteries are considered to be a promising alternative to lithium-ion batteries because they are safer and use more affordable materials. However, they have their disadvantages, such as relatively low energy intensity and rapid wear.

The key element of the new material was Linalool – the main aromatic compound of lavender oil. Scientists have created nanomaterials of linolol and sulfur that effectively prevents the loss of battery capacity caused by the so -called Sulfur by a boat. ” This process leads to a gradual decrease in battery productivity and reduce its service life.

The new material creates a kind Cage ”for sulfur, preventing it from migration inside the battery. Due to this, batteries using new material can withstand much more charging cycles, while maintaining a high capacity.

“It is exciting – to reject future batteries using materials that grow in our gardens,” says Paolo Dzhusto, the head of a group of researchers.
