Norway has pledged $9 billion in funding to Ukraine for the year 2026, marking a significant step in military and civilian assistance through the Nansen Program. This announcement was made by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko during a visit by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to Kyiv.
Svyrydenko emphasized that this new aid package continues the strong partnership between Ukraine and Norway, which has notably contributed to the PURL initiative aimed at enhancing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
“Today, we placed a major focus on energy security. Norway’s assistance with gas imports and contributions to the Energy Support Fund and grants are extremely important. Additionally, Norway is providing distributed generation equipment that will operate based on Naftogaz Group facilities,” Svyrydenko stated.
The discussions also included potential investment projects that could be supported by Norfund’s financial instruments. This collaboration highlights Norway’s ongoing commitment to Ukraine’s defense and energy security amid the ongoing conflict.
Previously, a coalition of countries including the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Sweden contributed €420 million for the purchase of American weaponry for Ukraine as part of the PURL initiative.
Norway's $9 billion aid commitment for Ukraine in 2026 underscores the continued support for military and energy security. This funding is part of a broader partnership aimed at enhancing Ukraine's defense capabilities.
