Literally KCNA: “Kim stressed the importance of regularly checking the reliability and responsiveness of North Korea’s nuclear deterrent components as Pyongyang faces various security threats.”
Details: South Korea’s military said it detected the launch of several missiles from the Sunan area near Pyongyang around 8 a.m. the previous day, indicating that North Korea may conduct more missile tests later this year.
The latest missile launch came after Kim watched a test of new long-range anti-aircraft missiles in the East Sea on Wednesday.
Yonhap adds that ahead of a key party congress next year, North Korea’s leader has stepped up his inspections of military facilities, apparently seeking to showcase the country’s defense achievements.
He also inspected an 8,700-ton “nuclear submarine with strategic guided missiles” that, according to The New York Times, may have been supplied by Russia.
