Prehistory:
- The law on sanctions against Russia in 2022 was unanimously adopted by the Parliament of New Zealand on March 9, 2022. He gave the Minister of Foreign Affairs the opportunity to impose sanctions in response to the threats of Ukraine’s sovereignty or territorial integrity.
- In 2023, the governments of Australia and New Zealand expanded sanctions against the Russian Federation to the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
- In May 2024, New Zealand imposed sanctions against 28 individuals and 14 legal entities that provide Russia’s military support in the war against Ukraine.
- On February 24, New Zealand announced the next expansion of sanctions against Russia in support of Ukraine.
