“Negotiations on new trade rules were conducted on the background of completion of the so -called “trade visa -free” and EU “trade visa and EU”, – WRITE: www.radiosvoboda.org
“For sensitive goods such as eggs, sugar and wheat, quotas are increasing, but remain lower than the historical volume of trade to ensure the stability of the EU market. For less sensitive products, quotas are growing moderately, and some products will be fully liberalized, ”the European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security explained Marosh Shefchovich.
The agreement provides for the EU market mechanism in the event that imports from Ukraine create serious difficulties at the level of the Union or individual Member States. Ukraine is also expected to gradually harmonize its standards for the production of agricultural products with EU standards by 2028, in particular in the areas of animal welfare and the use of pesticides.
“I want to clearly emphasize that additional access to the market will be provided provided that the EU standards comply with. The creation of equal conditions for EU farmers has been clearly defined in the vision for the agricultural sector, and now we are putting it in practice, ”the European Commissioner for Rural Food and Christoph Hansen emphasized.
Earlier, agrarians from some European countries complained that Ukrainian farmers are able to reduce production costs, as they do not need to comply with the requirements for the use of pesticides and other fertilizers that may be forbidden in the EU. The Minister of Agriculture of Poland, Czeslav Secier, insisted on this in May.
He also suggested that the states neighboring with Ukraine – Poland, Hungary, Slovakia – would remove unilateral embargoes, which they imposed on certain categories of Ukrainian products.
“I am convinced that when we present the results of these negotiations to our Member States, we will conduct a detailed discussion with them and explain how important this agreement is, how profitable it is and how sensually we have come to different categories of products, and how we simultaneously open up new opportunities for exporting EU farmers to Ukraine. I believe that this will lead to the abolition of these embargoes by our Member States, ”the European Commissioner Shefchovich said.
Negotiations on new trade rules were conducted against the background of the completion of the so -called “trade visa waiver” of Ukraine and the EU, introduced at the beginning of a full -scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine.
