NBA introduced a new throw rule that is tested during the summer league

The NBA Summer League in 2025 became a platform for testing the new rule.

The NBA decided to introduce in the Summer League a rule that was first tested in the G-League last season.

According to this rule, any throw, classified as a “cast” will be credited to the percentage of the team, but will not be credited to the statistics of an individual player.

In this way, the league seeks to encourage more throwing to throw in the last seconds instead of players simply allow time to swim.

According to the rule, the throw will be considered a “throw” for three criteria:

• The throw should be made of at least 11 meters;
• The throw should be made in the last three seconds of the game time (the rule works for the first three -quarters of the match);
• The throw should be performed as a result of an attack that began with its half of the site.

We will remind that on the night of today, July 6, the first four matches of the Summer League of NBA-2025 took place.
