Details: The resolution was proposed by the political committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. A large part of it concerns support for Ukraine and pressure measures on Russia.
The resolution calls on the Allies to develop a joint strategy for Russia at the next NATO summit in the Netherlands with a focus on the Alliance’s ability to deter and counter threats from the Russian Federation, while simultaneously working to reduce Russia’s ability to wage war, in particular by ensuring full compliance with sanctions.
In the same paragraph, they recognize the right of Ukraine to strike legitimate military targets on the territory of the aggressor country in accordance with the principle of the right to self-defense, which is provided for in Article 51 of the UN Charter.
The document calls for maintaining and increasing military and other support for Ukraine, ensuring the timely supply of weapons and ammunition, “in particular air defense, long-range precision weapons and multi-purpose combat aircraft,” and using the potential of all tools and formats of NATO’s cooperation with Ukraine.
One of the points calls for “strengthening political and practical efforts to help Ukraine receive an invitation and become the 33rd member of NATO as soon as possible.”
They also call for increased sanctions pressure on Russia and North Korea, which is deepening support for the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine, and “to provide Ukraine with all means, including medium-range missiles, for self-defense and deterring future aggression.”
In addition, they call for using political and economic levers of influence on China to deter it from supporting Russia in the war.
The resolution calls for supporting Ukraine in achieving the goals of the “peace formula” and “victory plan” and expresses support for the principle “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.”
Another item calls for supporting the work on ensuring the responsibility of the Russian military and officials for all crimes committed by the Russian side during the war against Ukraine and the crime of aggression.
It will be recalled that on Monday the White House for the first time confirmed the authorization granted to Ukraine for ATACMS strikes against Russia.
It was also unofficially reported that Britain provided Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine for the first time during the prime ministership of Keir Starmer.
