NATO states pledged to assist the Armed Forces at the expense of defensive expenses

Member States of the North Atlantic Alliance, including the United States and Hungary, agreed that assisting Ukraine in the war against Russia would be part of their contribution to Euro-Atlantic security.

Details: The key element around which the summit solution is formed is an increase in the ally defensive costs of up to 5% of GDP.

At the same time, NATO members agreed that assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine would be counted as part of defense expenses.

“The Allies confirm the invariability of their sovereign obligations to support Ukraine whose safety is a contribution to our safety, and for this purpose will include their direct donations for Ukraine’s defense and contributions to its defense industry to calculate their own defense costs,” the document reads.

It should be noted that the decision was made by consensus, so it was supported by all Member States, including the US and Hungary.
