According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, NATO fighter jets acting as air police also identified one An-26 aircraft flying in international airspace from the mainland of the Russian Federation to the Kaliningrad region.

Both planes flew without radar transponders, without flight plans and maintained radio communication with the Regional Flight Control Center.

We will remind:

  • At the beginning of December, NATO fighter jets patrolling the airspace of the Baltic states took off three times to identify and escort Russian planes.
  • The media also wrote that NATO asked Turkey to provide F-16 fighters to participate in the mission to protect the Baltic airspace in 2026, a few months earlier than expected by the rotation schedule.
