Details: He added that “something is on the table for Russia” regarding a peace agreement with Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General added that, in his opinion, “the ball is clearly on the side of Russia.”
Rutte refused to resort to the details of what concessions can be made by Russia or Ukraine, stating that it would not help peace negotiations.
He also concerned the issue of NATO expenditures, as Trump has long insisted on the fact that European countries do not allocate the necessary 2% of his GDP for defense expenses, and stated that this requirement should be even higher.
Rutte agreed with this statement, saying that “she (demand – ed.) Should be much higher than these famous 2%.”
Direct language Rutte: “Obviously, with 2% we will not be able to protect NATO territory.”
That preceded: It was reported that Rutte will take a visit to the United States on Thursday, April 24, to urge President Donald Trump’s administration not to force Ukraine to accept a “peace agreement” against her will.
Recall: According to the media, the Trump administration submitted to Ukraine last week in Paris a one -page document, which was submitted as a “final proposal” for a peaceful settlement. Among other things, the United States is ready to recognize Russia’s control over Ukrainian Crimea and weaken sanctions against Moscow.
Zelensky stated that Ukraine does not recognize the Russian occupation of Crimea, which is internationally recognized by the Ukrainian territory.
The Financial Times writes that some European officials are afraid that the differences in the unilateral project of the “peace agreement” of the Trump administration, which envisages recognition by the United States of Crimea part of Russia, will undermine transatlantic security and even break NATO at the end of June.
