According to him, the new planning cycle will allow all 32 NATO member countries to form clear plans for the development of the necessary defense capabilities.
“This is something that hasn’t happened in decades. Each member country will now have a plan that will indicate what goals it will meet. They will then be able to approach industry and discuss future needs. Thus, NATO’s defense planning process becomes a market accelerator,” Admiral Vandier emphasized.
He emphasized that the new approaches are aimed at scaling up production, and not at producing limited batches of weapons. According to him, in the conditions of competition in the military sphere, it is critically important to quickly increase production volumes to meet defense needs.
The new capacity development targets are expected to be presented to ministers for approval no later than May 2025. The initiative is part of NATO’s broader strategy to adapt to new challenges, such as the threat from Russia, and to maintain the Alliance’s technological superiority.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte recently stated that peace in Ukraine can last only when Ukraine negotiates from a position of strength. For this, according to him, constant support and more weapons are needed, which will allow the country to defend itself better.
