National Police: 72-year-old man arrested for killing five people in Rivne region

Details: The tragedy happened around 04:10 at the common place of residence of internally displaced persons. Around 04:15, the police received a report from a social worker that her wards from the village of Sudobichi, who live in a non-working school, hear screams in the corridor.

According to the investigation, a conflict arose between a 72-year-old native of Donetsk region and other residents over domestic issues, which turned into a fight. During the fight, the man started hitting five people with a hammer and an ax.

Five citizens died of their injuries at the scene: 60- and 68-year-old men, two 81- and 78-year-old women from Donetsk region, as well as a 56-year-old native of Kirovohrad region.

Patrol policemen were the first to arrive at the scene and found the assailant.

Later, investigators detained a 72-year-old intruder.

According to the specified fact, the investigators started a pre-trial investigation under Clause 1, Part 2 of Article 115 (intentional murder of two or more persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The issue of notifying the suspect of suspicion and selecting a preventive measure for him is being resolved.
