After a lengthy legal battle, Montenegro has agreed to extradite South Korean cryptocurrency entrepreneur Hyung Do Kwon, known as the “King of Cryptocurrency,” to the United States. This is reported by the Associated Press (AR), transmits UNN.

Details

It is noted that Do Kwon was tried in absentia in the United States in April. He and Terraform labs were found liable on civil fraud charges for misleading investors.

Minister Boyan Božović issued a document allowing the extradition to the US of Do Kwon, the founder of the Singaporean crypto firm Terraform Labs, who was arrested in Montenegro last year

At the same time, it is not specified how long the extradition will take place.

The extradition order came after months of court proceedings in the Do Kwon case. Both South Korea and the United States demanded his extradition. Various courts in Montenegro have made and overturned numerous decisions on this in recent months, which sometimes contradicted each other.

In a statement from the country’s Ministry of Justice, it cites the latest decision of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, which states that the conditions for Do Kwon’s extradition to one of the two countries have been met, and that the final decision rests with the Minister of Justice.

The ministry said on Friday that there are more legal criteria in favor of extradition to the US.

Do Kwon’s lawyers in Montenegro said they learned of the decision from the media and that their client cannot be extradited until they receive the decision.
