The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported on September 19 that due to Russian shelling and military operations, there were power outages in the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions during the past day.

In particular, according to the report, in Sumy Oblast, during the air alarm, the equipment at the substation was turned off, consumers were cut off, and power has already been restored.

“In the Chernihiv region, as a result of enemy shelling, household consumers were cut off. In total, 4,972 subscribers remained without electricity. In the Donetsk region, substations, household consumers and mines were cut off during the air raid. At the time of the incident, a total of 72 workers were in the mines, and they were brought to the surface. The power supply has been partially restored,” the message reads.

The Ministry of Energy noted that planned blackouts are not expected on September 19, but urged to continue using electricity sparingly, especially during peak hours: from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that the significant damage caused by Russia’s massive attacks, in particular one of the largest attacks on the energy industry on August 26, continues to complicate the operation of the energy system. In addition, Russian troops do not stop daily shelling of energy infrastructure facilities.

According to the ministry, since October 2022, Russia has carried out more than a thousand strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities, and this year alone, 9 GW of generating capacity was lost due to strikes.

Earlier today, the UN mission said that Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have caused significant damage and could lead to even more devastating consequences as winter approaches.
