Merz performed at a joint press conference with Canada Prime Minister Mark Karney, who stated last month that Canada plans to recognize Palestine’s state at the General Assembly after similar statements of France and the United Kingdom.
“We will not join this initiative. We do not see the requirements, ”Merz said.
The next UN General Assembly will open in September. On July 24, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that at this session, Paris would officially announce Palestine’s recognition by an independent state. Britain, Canada also announced this intention.
On July 23, the Israeli Parliament approved a resolution to support the annexation of the West Bank of the Jordan River. This document is declarative, the Government of Israel has not announced its intention to annex this territory.
Palestine is now recognized as an independent state by more than 140 countries. These include Ukraine, China, India, Spain, Brazil and more. Palestine, among others, the USA, Canada, Japan, Germany, Israel do not recognize the independence.
According to the UN resolutions, two Jewish and Arab states were to be created in the territory of the former British exchanging Palestine. The Jewish State of Israel was established in 1948. The Palestinian state was not created at that time, its probable territories first came under the control of Egypt and Jordan, then Israel.
