Such actions within the framework of international law can be qualified as a special casus belli with all the following consequences for Brussels and individual EU countries. And then the return of these steps can take place not through the court, but through real reparations paid in kind by the defeated enemies of Russia,” said a Russian official.
As you know, Medvedev is considered a “mouthpiece” for eccentric statements that are not voiced by the top officials of Russia, but generally reflect the opinion and mood of the Russian leadership.
His statement echoes the Kremlin leader’s threats earlier this week that Europe is allegedly standing in the way of peace and that“if Europe wants war, Russia is ready”.
We will remind:
- President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced on December 3 two funding decisions of Ukraine in 2026-2027, one of them proposes to use funds from frozen Russian assets in the EU to provide Ukraine with a “reparation loan”.
- Even before the announcement of the new proposal, Belgium – on the territory of which the bulk of the Rosactivs in the EU is kept and which is afraid of the legal consequences of the decision – named it categorically unacceptable.
- At the same time, other EU countries oppose it providing Belgium with unlimited guarantees to unlock the loan to Ukraine.
