According to Zelensky, Medvedchuk, who for a long time was considered the main connection between the Kremlin and the pro -Russian forces in Ukraine, sought to impose conditions that are beneficial for Moscow.
“He believed that it could trade Ukraine that we should make concessions of Russia to get peace. But it was not peace – it would be surrender, ”Zelensky emphasized.
The President noted that it was because of his activities that Medvedchuk was detained by Ukrainian special services in April 2022, when he tried to escape after the start of a full -scale invasion.
Medvedchuk’s exchange for defenders of Ukraine
In September 2022, Ukraine exchanged Medvedchuk and another 55 Russian prisoners of war for 215 Ukrainian defenders, including Azov commanders who defended Mariupol.
