At the end of November, Poland submitted 139 projects worth almost 44 billion euros to the EC for approval. These are, for example, measures related to the “Eastern Shield”, air refueling or security of the Baltic Sea.
The entire European Union SAFE program is worth €150 billion, and Poland will be its biggest beneficiary.
Thursday’s negotiations with the EC concern the final approval of the Polish plan. The Polish authorities sent a plan with amendments to the projects to Brussels before the holidays. The EU diplomat reported that “there were few amendments and they were rather cosmetic.”
According to RMF FM, the EC should complete its assessment this month.
We will remind:
- Earlier it was reported that Poland will spend a significant part of the funds from the SAFE program for its own rearmament, and not on joint procurement with allies.
- Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the SAFE initiative is crucial for Poland’s military security, and will also give a powerful boost to the country’s economy.
- He said that 43.7 billion euros will help finance the purchase of drones and the country’s planned Eastern Shield defense project along the border with Belarus and Russia.
