“The updated 20-point peace plan does not formally contain a ban on Ukraine joining NATO and does not oblige Kyiv to renounce membership in the Alliance. At the same time, according to ZN.UA, in a separate document, Washington declares that NATO will no longer expand.”, — write: www.pravda.com.ua

Details: The publication ZN.UA got access to the “updated” peace plan, which Washington handed over to Kyiv. According to journalists, one of the key “non-Ukrainian” clauses – a general amnesty for actions during the war – was removed from it.

The package of peace proposals, as ZN.UA writes, consists of four documents:
- agreements between Ukraine, the Russian Federation, the USA and Europe (20 points);
- framework security assurances for Ukraine (three points);
- US commitments to NATO (four points);
- agreement between Russia and the USA (12 points).
According to the publication, these texts are more like “conceptual notes” than full-fledged international treaties.
According to the publication, unlike the previous “28-point plan”, the new version does not require Ukraine and NATO to legally enshrine Ukraine’s non-adherence to the Alliance in the Constitution and basic documents of the bloc. Ukraine also nowhere undertakes not to join NATO.
At the same time, as ZN.UA writes, in a separate document of the “peace package”, the USA declares that NATO will no longer expand and will not invite Ukraine to join.
These assurances are duplicated in the first paragraph of the bilateral US-Russian agreement, which also refers to Washington’s intention to moderate the dialogue between the leaders of Russia and NATO to “eliminate security concerns”, “de-escalation” and “guarantee global security”.
Separately, the USA promises to object to the deployment of any “NATO troops” in Ukraine.
ZN.UA notes that the legal status of the document “about NATO” is unclear.
Literally: “It is not clear what the legal status of the document “about NATO” will be. If the multilateral “20 points” clearly state that this Agreement is legally binding, then there is no such thing in the “NATO” document.
Details: According to the publication, this could theoretically allow the next US president to cancel the relevant provisions as “Trump’s legacy”, just as Trump canceled part of his predecessor’s decisions.
“Does this mean that the next US president will be able to cancel this “Trump legacy”, as Trump himself canceled most of the decrees of his predecessor Joe Biden? If so, then all is not lost for Ukraine,” he says ZN.UA.
