An unnamed French official stated The Telegraph that the deployment of fighter jets in Germany could be a message from Vladimir Putin, while diplomats in Berlin assumed that it would put pressure on the head of the Britain’s government to do the same.
“It should not be difficult to place several French nuclear fighters in Germany, and it would be a strong signal,” the source said.
Emmanuel Macron, President of France, spoke to Merz on Sunday night before traveling to the White House, where he had to submit his European security and defense plan to Ukraine Trump.
The diplomat in Berlin said that the French proposal would increase the pressure on the British prime minister Kira Starmer so that he did the same and proves that he is seriously set to contribute to European security.
“If the French decide to place nuclear restraint forces in Germany, it will really increase the pressure on the British to follow their example,” the diplomat said. But the source warned that such a request is unlikely to be officially made if the Americans do not remove their nuclear restraint forces from Germany.
Prehistory:
- The United States has long been guaranteeing Europe’s security, having an arsenal of about 100 nuclear missiles, many of which are located on a US military base in Germany.
- Last Friday, Martz stated that Paris and London should discuss “whether their nuclear protection can spread to us,” and warned on Sunday that the United States under Trump’s leadership is now “indifferent to the fate of Europe.”
- Macron insists that Europe has a debate about the role that French nuclear weapons can play in the continent’s defense.
