Details: Israel’s permanent representative to the UN, Dani Danon, confirmed to reporters in New York that the Israeli cabinet will meet on Tuesday to discuss a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon. “We are not done yet, but we are moving forward,” he said.
“We will make sure that we have the ability to neutralize any threat from southern Lebanon. I hope the Lebanese army will take care of that in the future. But if they fail again, we will be there,” he said.
Danon also assured that the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) will remain in the south of the country in any case. “We will coordinate our actions with UNIFIL and I expect them to be more effective this time,” he said.
According to CNN, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved the plan to sign the agreement “in principle.”
Netanyahu made it clear he would potentially approve a truce with Hezbollah during security consultations with Israeli government officials Sunday night, one of the sources said. His spokesman told CNN on Monday that the Israeli government would vote on the proposed deal on Tuesday. It is expected to be approved.
