Details: At a meeting with the president on Saturday, after a wave of public support from well-known public figures and the military, the head of the SBU refused to write a resignation letter and go to the SSR or the NSDC.

As far as UP is aware, Malyuk motivated his position by the fact that he has several operations of the scale of “Pavutyna” in the final stage, abandoning them now would be a crime.

But, they say, if the president has such a request, then let him refer this issue to the Council and the parliament will be determined.

Zelensky was outraged by General Malyuk’s refusal to write a statement. Communications advisors separately suggested to the president that the campaign to support the general “was organized by the SBU itself.” That’s why Zelensky nervously threatened that he could remove Malyuk from his post if he didn’t write a statement voluntarily. Parliament did grant such powers to the president at the beginning of the invasion regarding officials appointed by the head of state.

Many of the deputies are afraid of the public effect of applying such a procedure to Malyuk, who is perceived by the majority of society only as the creator of naval drones, the author of the Crimean bridge blow-up or the “Web” operation.

In Zelenskyi, first of all, they see Malyuk as one of the faces of Yermak’s attack on NABU/SAP, from which the OP is now desperately trying to distance itself. Secondly, Malyuk is put to the test that the Service in the rear is engaged in undisguised “commerce”, “undressing business whenever and however it pleases”.

On the other hand, Malyuk’s own team believes that the resignation is nothing more than a revenge of the still-present president Yermak for the position of the head of the SBU at the time of “Mindichgate” and the searches of the former head of the OP.

At his briefing on Saturday, Zelensky very annoyed, although without the name of the head of the SBU, said that he would carry out all the replacements he had planned. According to the UP, the OP even began to look for grounds on which it would be possible to formally issue a decree on the removal of Malyuk.

On Sunday, the head of the Service was pressed not only for dismissal, but also for words of thanks for this.

Despite the frantic support of the military, partners, and deputies, despite the extremely small prospect of release by the Council, Malyuk, according to the UP, still decided that to escalate with the president means harming the state. And agreed to resign. When and how the dismissal itself, which requires a vote of the Council, will be decided in the near future.

Instead of Malyuk, the head of “Alfa” Major General Yevhen Khmara can be appointed to perform the duties of the head of the SBU. However, Zelenskyi still hasn’t gotten rid of the idea of putting the Service in the hands of General Oleksandr Poklad, on whom Andriy Yermak had (is?) high hopes.

Although the new head of the OP is unlikely to agree with such a candidate, because he has almost a blood feud with him.
